Vice -president Kashim Shettimo states that the Federal Government intends to plant 20 billion trees in the next season of the rains as part of its national thrust of reforestation and environmental sustainability.
Shettimo announced it on Saturday after visiting multiple agricultural and industrial structures throughout Ethiopia.
He also made tour in the Adama Dairy Farms, Luke Avocado Nursery, Shera Dibandiba Mojo Family Farm, Biyyo Pouly Farm and Bishoftu Pea Farm as part of the efforts to strengthen bilateral bonds in agriculture and industrial development.

According to him, the program combines the environmental restoration with the creation of jobs.
He said that the initiative has drawn strong inspiration from the Green Legacy program of Ethiopia, which described as a model to combine climatic actions with economic opportunities.
Shettimo, who was on a state visit in that country, said that Ethiopia was a success story worthy of emulation and a pathfinder for the Renaissance of Africa.
“We intend to plant 20 billion trees in the next rains season.
βIt requires a lot of planning, energy and guide in which Ethiopia has been able to galvanize its population.
“I have been overwhelmed by the joy that the real economic Renaissance of Africa is downhill.
“Ethiopia has become the pathfinder, the front runner in the United States that claims our pride and our continent. We are powerfully proud of it.
“Ethiopia is a nation of over 100 million people; the success of Ethiopia will reverberate throughout the length and amplitude of Eastern and Southern Africa,” Shettimo said.
The vice -president recognized the achievement of Ethiopia in wheat self -sufficiency was a key goal.
He stressed that the country had turned from the import of $ 1 billion wheat every year to now export to neighboring countries, including Djibouti and Kenya.
Shettimo said: “If Nigeria and Ethiopia work, Africa will work. Joining, the two of us constitute over 350 million people, more than the population of the United States.
“We have to make these two countries work in harmoniously for the improvement of our continent”.
Dr. Kingsley Uzoma, the President’s Special Assistant for the improvement of agro and productivity, described the visit as a phenomenal.
Uzoma said the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to replicate the Ethiopia agricultural transformation model.
“President Bola Tinubu has a lot of respect for the people of Ethiopia. Because we came here is to underestimate what we have seen and referred to him.
“I think it will reply it in a much stronger and more daring flow rate,” said Uzoma.
He also said that Nigeria was also pursuing strategies of economic diversification as part of the efforts to reduce its dependence on oil revenues through expanded agricultural exports, including avocado, pineapple, mango, anacardi and cocoa.
