Peter Rufai: Tinubu cries the former goalkeeper Eagles Eagles

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed sadness for the disappearance of the legendary goalkeeper of Super Eagles Peter Rufai, who was 61 years old.

The president condemned himself with the Rufai family, friends and football fans on the disappearance of the immense goalkeeper called “Dodomayana” with his numerous fans and football lovers throughout Nigeria.

President Tinubu said that Peter Rufai would be remembered as one of those patriotic sportsmen who wrote their gold names in the sports annals of Nigeria and the African continent.

“I remember with affectionate memories of the heroic contributions of Peter Rufai in the historic Victory of the Super Eagles at the 1994 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia as a first choice goalkeeper, followed by the apparition of Nigeria equally on the time, first appearance to the Fifa World Cup, he defeated US ’94.

“Rufai was also a strong member of the team in the subsequent edition of the competition in France in 1998.

“Having started his career with the Lagos stationery shops in 1980, Rufai was one of the first players in Nigeria to become professionals, playing in many European countries including Belgium, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands, honoring the nation and opening a new window of opportunities for young players in Nigeria.

“After retiring from active football, Peter, a prince of the Royal House of Idimu, Lagos, established the Staruf Football Academy, where he continued to inspire, mentor and food young footballers,” said the president.
