The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face Botswana in their second group match of the Women’s Africa Cup 2024 (WAFCON), with the continental giants with the aim of building a strong start of their persecution for the title.
The group B’s clash is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco.

Halcons fly high in the first game
The Super Falcons, led by interim coach Justin Madugu, began their Wafcon campaign dominantly, defeating Tunisia 3-0. The objectives of Asisat Oshoala, Rinsola Babajide and Chiwendu Ihezuo established the tone for the search for Nigeria to ensure a tenth WAFCON title that extends records.
Classified 36 in the world by FIFA and the highest in this tournament, Nigeria enters this accessory as favorites.
With nine WAFCON titles and an undefeated record when reaching each semifinal since the beginning of the tournament, the Falcons remain the gold standard in African women’s football.
Botswana looking to recover
The National Women’s Team of Botswana, The Mares, is making its second appearance in Wafcon after debuting in 2022. They began their 2024 campaign with a close 1-0 defeat against Algeria and will be desperate to record their first points of the tournament.
Under chief coach Gaoletho Nkutlwe, the team is known for its defensive discipline, often sitting deep in a low block while depending on the rapid counterattacks. Refilwe Tholakele, the young striker and the outstanding player of the team, will be key to his hopes to violate the background of Nigeria.

This will be only the second meeting between the two nations in Wafcon. His first meeting came in the group stage of the 2022 edition, where Nigeria registered a comfortable 2-0 victory courtesy of Christy Ucheibe and Ifeoma Onumonu.
Team news
Botswana will be driven by the return of Lone Gaofetoge and Nandi Mahlasela, who lost the opening match due to the suspension. Its inclusion will strengthen the center of the field and the defensive structure of the side.
For Nigeria, there are no injury or suspension problems. All players are available for the National Team, giving coach Madugu a complete team to choose from while seeking to rotate or maintain the impulse.
What to wait
Given the Gulf in quality, history and current form, Nigeria is expected to dominate possession and believe many opportunities. Botswana, meanwhile, will probably seek to contain the hawks and hit the break.
A victory for Nigeria will ensure a place in the quarterfinals and will continue its march towards a tenth Wafcon crown. For Botswana, it is an opportunity to demonstrate that they can compete with the best of the continent.
