Liverpool have retired shirt number 20 in honor of Diogo Jota – the first time he made a movement like that.
The club says it is “Unique Respect for Extraordinary People” and the decision was made by consulting with his wife and family.
Number 20 will retire at all levels, including the first team of men and women and academy teams.
A statement says: “That is the number he wore proudly and difference, bringing us to countless victories in the process – and Diogo Jota will forever be number 20 Liverpool Football Club.”
The club calls it “recognition is not only an immeasurable contribution, our young man from Portugal made for the success of the Reds in Pitch for the past five years, but also the deep personal impact he has with his teammates, colleagues and supporters and the eternal connection he built with them”.
The newly married Jota Died with his brother, Andre, when his Lamborghini fell in North Spain on July 3.
