The chief coach of the flying eagles of Nigeria, Aliyu Zubairu, has expressed his confidence in the preparation of his team before his inaugural match against Ghana in the Wafu B U20 tournament in Ghana.
The Nigerian team, who are the winners of the last two editions of the Wafu B U20 championship (organized by Niger Republic and Togo, respectively), will face the hosts of Ghana in the opening match of Group A today, Thursday, from 3 pm the place is the prampram center in Accra.
Speaking in a conversation prior to the game, coach Zubairu praised team access to the facilities, saying that he has significantly helped his preparation.
He said that “the preparation has been so good, considering the fact that we have obtained access to the facilities since we came here, and has really helped,” he said.
The coach emphasized that his main objective is to evaluate the new players and evaluate their ability to excel in high pressure situations.
“I think as a coach, the most important thing is that I can evaluate newcomers and see how they can administer and excel in situations like this,” he explained.
Coach Zubairu recognized the historical rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana, but emphasized that the team’s approach is to evaluate the adjustment of the new players within the team.
“Ghana and the Nigerian rivalry do not start with today’s game, it will not end today, and the players understand it,” he added.
The tournament is also expected to serve as a preparatory for the Flying Eagles before the FIFA World Cup finals in Chile in September-October this year.
It would be remembered that coach Aliyu Zubairu, who took the team to qualify for the World Cup and claimed a third place in the AFCon in Egypt in May of this year, this year had taken the team to win the WAFU-B classification tournament in October 2024 after defeating Ghana 2-1 in the final in Togo in Togo.
