Obi cleans the air in the video he serves food at an event

Former Governor of the State of Anambra and 2023 Presidential Candidates from the Labor Party (LP), has cleaned the air about the controversy that follows the video and picture in which he was personally arrested serving food to guests at an event in the IMO state.

The video has resulted in a reaction from Nigeria with some who praised him because of humility and disposition of servants while others condemned him and saw the movement as a discouraged political homework to get votes for 2027.

Some other critics of these actions sarcastically called Obi a Bartman and questioned the authenticity of the movement.

When reacting to criticism in a statement posted on his X platform on Sunday, Obi wondered the way people played their movements and gave different coloring.

In the statement, he noted that the opportunity was a personal event where the press was not invited was also not published, but somehow, some third parties independently shared photos and videos online.

He added that the event was not about him but was held by a foundation called ‘Jubilee of Hope’, and its direct purpose reminded all that “true leadership is service, and that those who should not forget those who are not.”

“My weekend activity serves food at a special event has produced interests, as expected, because leaders in our society have deleted service components in leadership,” Obi wrote.

“Sounds strange that I seemed to serve food to people. Let me be clear, the event was not about me. It was called the Jubilee of Hope, and its direct goal, to remind us all that true leadership is a service, and that those who should not forget those who are not.

“When I attended the Jubilee of Hope at the IMO State, it was a private service event. I did not post about it, I also did not invite media coverage. Unfortunately, some third parties, entirely outside of my team, shared photos and videos.

“As expected, the ordinary opponents and paid agents go to work trying to distort something sincere into something political.

“But allow me to declare the core of this problem again, the jembel hope is designed for the rich down from their high places, even if only for a moment, and serving the poor, not as a show, but as a symbol of society that we must build. The community that is anchored to empathy, justice, and responsibility.

“I was not the only one who served that day. Many Nigerians who were well-intended and prominent also participated, people like Cardinal Onaiyekan, Senator Osta Izunaso, former Chairman of PLC Seplat, Dr. ABC Orjiako, and many others, secretly and sincere. It was not about Cameration; it was about Ronscocience.

“I am really surprised that this simple action has become a topic of discussion. As governor, I always serve others every time we have an event. Even now, in personal life, I do not have home help.

“When the guests visited my house, I served them myself. I live a simple life, I sweep, I clean up, because for me, humility is not a campaign strategy; that is a way of life.

“In the Jubilee of Hope, I stay longer because many of the poor participants ask that I serve them personally. I cannot ignore them. That is the only reason. If not, there is nothing special about what I do. The service is not special, expected.

“We cannot talk about building new Nigeria while ignoring hunger, forgotten, and poor people. Events should not remain symbolic, they must be a culture. Public office holders, business leaders, and everyday citizens must unite in lifting others.

“Let’s work together to build a country where hope is not seasonal, and dignity is not a privilege, but rights.”
