Nigeria’s political and leadership community was thrown into the sorrow after the death of the former President of Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at a London clinic after a brief illness.
Garba Shehu, a former digital media aide for President Buhari, confirmed the news in a statement.
“The family of the former president has announced the death of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon at a clinic in London. May Allah accept it at Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin,” the message reads.
The Governor of the State of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and the whole nation.
In a statement issued by the advisor especially about the media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde described the death of Buhari as an unexpected but noted that the former president made a sign in service to Nigeria.
“Former president made a sign in serving the country,” Makinde said, giving prayers for divine comfort for the Buhari family and for Allah to give Aljanah Firdaus who died.
The Governor of the State of Bauchi, Bala Mohammed, also expressed deep sadness over the death of the former Nigerian leader.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, he praised Buhari’s commitment and firm leadership for many years of his public service.
“President Buhari is a great leader who serves Nigeria with a deep commitment and task. His contribution to national development and its fortitude in leadership will be remembered,” said Bala Mohammed.
He prayed, “May Allah Almighty forgive his shortcomings and give him Aljannatul Firdaus.”
Buhari, who served as the military head of the Nigerian state from 1983 to 1985 and then as president was elected two semesters from 2015 to 2023, was 82. His graduation marked the end of the important chapter in Nigeria’s political history.
