Federal Capital Region Minister, Nyesom Wike, has told the Governor of Edo State, the Monday Senator on Okpebholo, against launching any investigation into its predecessor administration, Godwin Obaseki, instead urged him to prioritize the development of the country.
Wike gave advice during his visit to Benin City, as arrested in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Mr. Lere Olayinka.
While acknowledging his personal complaint with Obaseki, the former Governor of the State Rivers said that investigating the past would produce a little benefit and distract the new government from providing meaningful governance to the people of Edo.
“If there is someone who will encourage Okpebholo to investigate and sue Obaseki, that person should be me,” Wike admitted.
“However, what I suffer in ensuring that he returned for the second term and how he responded to me now in the past. We must go through this process in life, continuing to develop Edo.”

He continued: “Because of that, don’t do that. I was the one who should tell you to pursue this man because I knew what I was passing by. If it became his strength, you will not be here, but God has told him, ‘You don’t have it and I have given it to whom I want to give it.”
Wike also used the opportunity to offer public apologies to the former Governor of Edo and Senator at this time, Adams Oshomhole, acknowledged the role he played in supporting Obaseki during the political fall between the two.
“Leader, I know how sad you are and what you go through; I know it’s like an insult for you,” Wike said.
“I am part of it because I embarrass you while supporting Obaseki. I apologize to you on national TV and I still apologize for what I do to you.”
He asked the Governor of Okpebholo to release the past and concentrate on providing good governance.
“Let Obaseki and his team bring their problems and leave. Focus on the development of Edo and you will see what you will achieve at the end of the day,” he advised.
Wike is in the state of Edo for the planned commissioning from the second phase of the Benin Central Bus Terminal, especially the Edo Path terminal which has just been completed in Benin. However, the inauguration ceremony was canceled because it crossed the former President of Muhammadu Buhari.
