Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai Honorary Late Buhari in Daura Graveside

Leading Nigerian leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governor of State Anambra Peter Obi, and former Governor of the State Kaduna Nasir El-Rufai, gave the last respects in the grave of former President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari, who died on Sunday in London at the age of 81, was buried on Tuesday in his hometown, Daura, in line with Islamic funeral rituals. His death and funeral have attracted the flow of mourners and famous visitors to the northwest city.

Atiku Abubakar, one of the earliest arrived in the Daura among the list of high -ranking officials who continued to develop, described the late leader as: “A man who dedicated his life to the nation’s services.”

Also expressed his condolences, Peter Obi reflected the importance of unity during national loss, stating:

“At this time, we must remember the bonds that unite us outside politics.”

The former president, who led the first Nigeria as the head of the country’s military from 1983 to 1985 and then as a democratic elected president between 2015 and 2023, was laid off in the garden in his residence in the Daura – a place he often visited for reflection during his lifetime.

On Tuesday morning, Buhari’s body was flown to Nigeria, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff of President Bola Tinubu. At Katsina Airport, President Tinubu personally accepted the corpse with members of the high -powered federal delegation.

The funeral ceremony, marked by a full military award, featured a special procession as a corpse of Buhari – wrapped in a national flag – pushed into a grave with a military trolley. A tribute to the weapon of the ceremony was fired in honor of his inheritance as a former commander of Nigeria.

The mourners continued to be an army to Daura to entertain the Buhari family and respect a man who is considered a symbol of integrity and service in the political history of the Nigerian complex.
