By exiting Atiku, PDP moved to seduce Peter Obi back before the 2027 election

The Democratic People’s Party (PDP) has officially confirmed that they actively worked to bring Peter Obi, the former Governor of the State Anambra and the 2023 Labor Party presidential candidate, returned to his staff.

The disclosure was carried out by the Deputy Secretary of the PDP National Publicity, Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an interview on Arise television, where he described Obi as a strong political force whose return would significantly increase the opportunity for PDP in the future elections.

The step to enter Obi into PDP came at one time his presidential candidate in the 2023 election. Atiku Abubakar announced his resignation from the Main opposition party.

“Peter Obi is our product. We want to get it back, because he is a very capital, very great for any political party,” Abdullahi said.

He praised Obi’s performance in the last general election, where the labor candidates pulled over more than six million votes throughout Nigeria even though there was Abdullahi described as the election challenge.

“If he did not go as he did in the last dispensation and did not face the institutional barriers placed in his way, we were sure he would perform better. That he could still order more than six million votes showed that he was not a candidate to be ignored.”

Obi, who was previously a member of the PDP, defected to the Labor Party shortly before the preliminary election of the 2023 President. He finally ranks third in the race, behind Atiku Abubakar from PDP and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu APC, who won the President. Its popularity, especially among young people and city voters, since then positioned him as a central figure in the Nigerian opposition landscape.

Abdullahi acknowledged the impact of Obi’s buyers on the wealth of PDP in 2023 but noted that the party was still annoying at high prices and saw the potential for return as a strategic advantage.

“Every political party that gets the opportunity to have it will benefit. And of course, PDP does not give up on that effort,” he added.

He revealed that PDP is currently involved in a broad consultation and a long -term strategy session aimed at consolidating opposition forces and increasing the party’s attractiveness ahead of the 2027 general election.

“In full time, we are sure we might get it back. This will be a big encouragement for PDP,” Abdullahi said.

This new encouragement to re -integrate OBI to PDP emerged in the midst of calls from various political stakeholders and civil society actors for Nigerian opposition parties to unite in the major coalition capable of challenging the decisions of all Progressive Congress (APC), which has been holding federal power since 2015.

While Peter Obi has not openly responded to PDP’s offer, political observers view the party’s approach as part of a broader recalibration in Nigeria’s opposition aimed at presenting more resilient challenges in the next presidential election.
