Young captures: Nuj announces on July 24, for the resuscitation of the club’s press clubs in FCT secondary school

Abuja (basic reporter) in a strategic move to capture the next generation of Young ethical and professional journalists, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (Nuj), FCT Council, has announced the awakening and strengthening of the press clubs in the secondary schools of Abuja.

Revealing this during an interactive session at the Government Secondary School (GSS), Garki, vice -president Nuj FCT, partner Yahaya Ndababo who represented the Council stressed that the promotion of strong basic journalism bases must start in schools.

According to Ndababo, “our goal is to promote professionalism from the basis giving students at the beginning with skills and journalistic values”

The union resolved on Thursday 24 July 2025, as an official launch date for the project to awaken the press club, starting with two pilot schools.

Yahaya said that this part of the effort to bring out future generations to promote ethical journalism

Representing GSS GRKI leadership, the matron of the press club, Mrs. Udophy Emauwa Unyime, warmly welcomed the initiative, calling her a “timely and visionary effort” which will turn on the passion of students for journalism.

This initiative constitutes a milestone of the Nuj Fct Press Week of 2025, which will present activities that support the freedom of the press, the development of the media and the civic responsibility, with the aim of building a culture of inclusive basic journalism through the territory of the federal capital and beyond.
