The agents of Division 6, the Nigeria army arrested 62 suspected oil thieves and confiscated over 350,000 liters of stolen products during a series of operations in four states in the Niger delta region.
The last operation was conducted in four days as part of the arrival of the army against the theft of oil, the vandalism of the gas pipeline and associated crimes in the region, adding that several illegal bunking sites have been “dismantled” and “supply chains” interrupted.
The Deputy Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, revealed it in a statement released to Port Harcourt on Sunday and made available to journalists.
Danjuma also said that the operation, which was in collaboration with other security agencies, led to the destruction of 14 illegal refining sites.
The declaration states in part: “These talents have been achieved through various operations conducted in collaboration with other security agencies, with successful successes through Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Akwa Ibom States between 14 and 20 July 2025.
“The operations led to the arrest of 62 suspected economic sabotitioners, to the deactivation of fourteen illegal refining sites, the seizure of five boats and the confiscation of over 350,000 liters of oil products stolen in the joint operating area.
“In the state of rivers, around an abandoned Wellhead in Joinkrama 4 in the area of the local government of Ahoda West, the troops deactivated six illegal refining sites.
“Six large ovens, tanks and receivers containing about 300,000 liters of stolen crude oil and 21,000 liters of automotive gas oil have been managed in line with the existent operating mandate.”
The declaration also stated that other articles recovered from the site included a set of generators, a welding and different blades.
He continued: “In the same way, several illegal refining sites have been dismantled around Obiafor in Ogba/Ndoni LGA (Ribets State).
“Three dug wells were discovered, two full of over 5,700 liters of stolen crude oil and one containing stolen non -quaders.
“The troops also intercepted a Sienna vehicle without recording number, loaded with 32 bags full of over 1,920 liters of stolen FA, to Elect Town of Ikwerre LGA.
“In the same way, an illegal connection point was discovered, together with a dug pitch full of over 1,200 liters of condensation. The recovered items included three pipes of 150 meters, eight metal drums and several ovens created for illegal refining.”
In the state of Bayelsa, around Biseni in Yenagoa Lga, the declaration continued: “The troops deactivated four illegal refining sites and four dug wells. Over 10,000 liters of stolen were confiscated and five kitchen ovens have been dismantled.
“The troops are also combing the inlets and streams to repress the economic sabotitioners.
“As regards, following a tip, the troops projected the strength from Javel’s sharp sand water to Gana Road to Sapele Lga of Delta State, where two suspicious oil thieves were arrested.
“They were arrested with two boats loaded with 30 cellophane bags full of over 1,500 liters of illegally refined.”
The army also declared in the state of Akwa Ibom: “The troops continued to dominate the operational panorama, effectively denying the criminal elements freedom of action”.
