Peter Obi reiterated the promise of the presidency of one time, saying ‘my word is my bond’

The presidential candidate of the Labor Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, once again declared his commitment to serve only one term four years if the president was elected in 2027, insisted that his oath was “sacred.”

The former Governor of the State Anambra made this known in a statement shared through the official handle of X (previously Twitter) on Sunday, stating that his decision was anchored in the values of integrity, governance driven by goals, and personal accountability.

“I will only undergo a term of four years if the president is elected. And the oath is sacred,” Obi said.

Highlighting examples of transformational leaders serving single terms, Obi quoted Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela, all of whom, according to him, left a deep inheritance through a focused short-term leadership.

“One of the greatest American presidents, Abraham Lincoln, served only four years, but his inheritance survived … Mandela chose to serve only one term … his decision was a deliberate leadership act,” he said.

Obi acknowledged that public skepticism of Nigerian politicians noted that trust had been eroded because of several decades that were not fulfilled.

“But even in this cynicism climate, there are still some whose actions are suitable for their words – whose integrity is built based on precedents that can be verified,” he said.

Responding to a recent statement that questioned his sincerity, Obi revealed that he had heard two indirect criticians from the one-person who suggested that even a temple oath would not make him trustworthy, and the others implied he had to look for psychiatric evaluation.

“Recently, I became aware of the two statements that were intended, although indirectly, for my oath to serve only one term four years. One person said that even if I swear by the temple, I still would not be trusted. The other suggested that there were people who talked about doing only one term that had to undergo psychiatric evaluation,” he said.

Maintaining his track record, Obi pointed at the time as Governor of the State of Anambra, where he said he made and kept all promises for the people.

“I fulfilled every promise without deviations … My words are my bond.”

Describe governance priorities, Obi promised to focus on security, education, health care, anti-corruption, and economic transformation-with the aim of changing the Nigerian economy from consumption to production.

“Forty -eight months is enough for every leader who is focused and ready to make a meaningful difference,” he added.

Obi’s updated promise seems to be designed to strengthen public trust ahead of the 2027 presidential election, indicating that he intends to carry out the power of personal integrity and measurable shipping – not a term of office.
