The president has criticized the former presidential candidate of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, for his last one -time promise before the 2027 election, described his historical reference as inaccurate and misleading.
Obi has taken his official hand X (previously Twitter) on Sunday to swear that, if elected as president in 2027, he will only undergo a term of office. He quoted global figures such as Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela as inspiration behind what he called the commitment “sacred”.
However, in a fast refutation posted on Monday through his own X account, the special advisor of the Tinubu Bola President about the media and publicity, Bayo Onanuga, refused Obi’s comparison, insisted they could not stand the historical supervision.
“Lincoln, when he was killed, had completed his first term, had won a re -election, and was appointed for the second term,” Onanuga wrote. He noted that Abraham Lincoln began his presidency on March 4, 1861, re -elected in November 1864, and was inaugurated for the second term on March 4, 1865, before being killed on April 15 that year.
Onanuga also questioned the mention of Obi about John F. Kennedy, clarifying that the US president could not complete even one full period. “John F. Kennedy began serving on January 20, 1960, and was killed on November 22, 1963, before the end of his first term of office,” he said.

Acknowledging that Nelson Mandela did only serve one term as President of South Africa, Onanuga argued that Mandela’s choice was influenced by age, not a campaign promise.
“Example Mandela may be more appropriate for Obi’s rival for opposition tickets, which will be 81 in 2027,” added Onanuga, in a pointed comment that seems to refer to another prominent opposition figure, Atiku Abubakar.
While Obi has not yet made a formal declaration to run for positions in 2027, his new public statement and the increasing visibility continues to generate speculation about his political intentions.
