12 parties for field candidates in South Anambra Selection South

At least 12 political parties will participate in the selection of August 16 in the South Senatorial District of Anambra.

Commissioner of Country Population (REC), Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, revealed this to journalists on Friday at AWKA.

He said nine political parties would reduce candidates in Onitsha North Constituency 1 of the election for the Anambra State Assembly.

The South Anambra seat became empty after the death of the Senator Ifei changed in July 2024.

Likewise, parliament members representing Onitsha North Constituency 1 at the Anambra State Council Council, Mr. Hakim Azuka, died after his abduction by armed people on December 24, 2024.

Rec said non-sensitive selection materials had arrived in the state and were being distributed, while strong security measures exist to ensure the smooth polls.

He noted that AD Hoc Staff training, including the chairman (POS) and assistant chairman (APO), began on Friday and will be completed on Sunday in 15 regional government areas in the state.

“To ensure the credibility of the BYE selection, individuals found guilty in previous exercises have been put into the Blacklist, between other steps taken,” Agwu stated.

He expressed concern that certain political parties focused on propaganda rather than a sincere campaign.

“Allow me to emphasize that all people who fight in the election are candidates approved by Inec, but in the end, the voters will decide the winners,” concluded Rec.

Candidates for the selection of southern anambra are Mr. Donald Amangbo from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Mr. Azuka Okwuosa from the Congress of All Progressive (APC).

Also taking part in the election is Mr. Peter Ekwueme from the new Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Mr. Azubuike Okoli from the Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Head of Emma Nwachukwu from the All Alliance Grand Alliance (APGA), among others.
