2027: Kachikwu accuses Atiku to set the takeover of ADC for the President’s offer

Dumebi Kachikwu, a 2023 presidential candidate from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar carried out a calculated plan to win the party control ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Kachikwu claimed that the move was part of Abubakar’s strategy to actualize his president’s ambitions, with increased pressure on the 2023 Labor Party candidate, Peter Obi, to serve as an ongoing couple.

The accusation followed the formation, in June, regarding the political coalition involving Abubakar, Obi, former Governor of Kaduna Nasir El-Rufai State, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, who had announced ADC as their election platform for 2027.

Kachikwu accused that Abubakar’s colleague had infiltrated the ADC leadership structure nationally, effectively securing party control. He accused the former vice president of holding political bias against the South, although there were public claims about affinity with the region.

“I warn that a group of former political position holders who have long implemented the agenda that were designed carefully to take over ADC to demand the ambitions of the President Atiku Abubakar in 2027,” Kachikwu said. “Peter Obi and other presidential candidates in the Geriatric Coalition were cheated, because Atiku’s forces had been carefully positioned to take over the structure of the ADC party throughout the country.”

He further accused Abubakar and certain northern elites of exploiting regional and religious sentiments to damage the southern presidential candidate, while mistakenly describing the President of the Tinubu ball as hostile to North.

Kachikwu presented what he described as proof of counterfeiting, accusing that the signature of the ADC State Chairperson was falsified in court documents to validate Ralph Nwosu claims that were disputed by the party’s leadership. He also condemned the appointment of former Senate President David Mark as ADC chairman, describing it as an invalid act facilitated by Nwosu, who he said did not have the legal authority to make such an appointment.

“Our lawyer has sent a petition to the appropriate law enforcement agency,” Kachikwu said. “This is a fraud committed in broad daylight.”
