The troops saved nine hostages in Sokoto, killing terrorists in Zamfara Ambush

The Yamma Fasin Operations Forces (Opfy) have saved nine kidnapped victims in the Sokoto state and neutralize several terrorists in the decisive ambush in Zamfara.

The Army revealed that the breakthrough following the operation led by intelligence conducted on the night of September 31, 2025, along the intersection road known on Jalan Isa-Shinkafi-Kaura Namoda that connects Zamfara and Sokoto countries.

Acting based on credible intelligence about the terrorist movement, the troops laid an ambush in the Shinkafi Regional Government in Zamfara. According to the army, when the terrorists saw the soldiers, they tried to use their prisoners who were kidnapped as human shields.

However, troops responded quickly, involving criminals and defeating them. “The decisive meeting caused the rescue of nine victims, consisting of three adult women and six children,” the soldier stressed.

The saved hostages were identified as residents of Batur Garin Village in the Sabon Birni Regional Government in the Sokoto state. They were immediately evacuated to a public hospital in Shinkafi for medical treatment.

Items that are restored on the Ambush site include AK-47 rifles with two magazines containing 20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, motorbikes, three cellphones, and a pair of desert camouflage uniforms.

The Army added that the released victims had been handed over to LGA Shinkafi officials, who assured that the arrangement was being made for a safe reunion with their family.

Referred to its commitment, the military vowed to maintain “aggressive operations throughout the northwest and the northern central parts to terrorism and bandits were eliminated.” The statement also urged residents to continue to share “timely and credible information to support sustainable efforts to restore peace and security throughout theater.”
