The Governor of the State of Borno, Babagana Zulum, visited Darajamal, a community in Bama, to condemn with the families of the 63 people killed by the insurgents of Boko Haram on Friday evening.

The victims include 5 soldiers and about 58 civilians who had been displaced by the insurgents but have been resetted to Darajamal for two months now.

Zulum, visibly moved by the accident, met the leaders of the community and consoled the families in mourning. He expressed pain and condemned the brutal attack in the strongest terms.

Speaking with the journalists, the governor said: “We are here to commission with the people of Darajamal for what happened last night who claimed the lives of many people. It is very sad. This community was resolved a few months ago and carry out their normal activities, but unfortunately, they experienced the attack of Boko Haram last night. Our visit is to commit their resistance with them.

On the victims, the governor said: “At this moment we have confirmed that 63 people have lost their lives, both civil and military, although civil victims are more. Near 60 civilians and 5 soldiers have lost their lives”.

Governor Zulum, observing the challenges they had to face in the fight against insecurity, also asked for the immediate deployment of the recently training forest guards to integrate the military in the protection of vulnerable communities.

He said: “We must take note that the numerical force of the military is not enough to cover everywhere, so far so well, two series of forest guards have been trained, therefore one of the solutions that we must immediately implement is to deploy the forest guards trained in most vulnerable locations, will protect the forest and communities”.

In addition, the senator who represents Borno Central, Kaka Shehu Lawan, whose electoral college Darajamal falls below, condemned the attack, describing it as a crime against humanity.

He expressed his commitment to support Babagana Governor Umara Zulum through legislative support to restore peace in the state of Borno.
