Civic Group accused Akpabio of choosing N4BN through the Ministry of Agriculture, others to build a police station in A’ibom

A civil accountability organization, Monitng, has accused the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio, of choosing N4 billion through the Ministry of Agriculture to build a police station in the state of Akwa Ibom.

In a statement released on Saturday, the group accused that the Zonal 2025 intervention project facilitated by Akpabio had exposed a serious case of priority that was misplaced, duplication, and potential transfer of public funds.

It is said that the allocation was diverted through Federal Co-Operative College, Ibadan, an agent who did not have the capacity to implement these projects.

The organization also quoted several projects, including “ZIP20250388 Project: Rural Market Farm Construction in Abiana, Abak Oko, Atan, and Mbiabet Esire Agriculture Community (Lot A – C) – ₦ 1,000,000,000.”

Other projects quoted by the organization include ::

ZIP 20250389 Project: Rural Agricultural Market Construction in Edem Idim, Nkane IKPE, Nnung Inuen, Obioma, and Ubeng Agricultural Community (Lot 1-3) – ₦ 1,000,000,000 projects. 1-2) – ₦ 1,000,000,000. “

The others are:

“The ZIP20250391 Project: Fabrication and Equipment of Police Station in NKWOT ETOK, AKATA, IBONG NTO will, Nung Eduo, and the Uruk Ata Community (Lot 1-2) – ₦ 1,000,000,000.”

“Overall, 4 billion has been allocated for markets and police stations in the agricultural community.”

“But what exactly is the Ministry of Agriculture’s business by building a police station? And why does ₦ 2 billion must be spent on the rural market when the main health center and public schools throughout Akwa Ibom are in dilapidated condition?” The group asked.

“This is a completely priority placement error. This shows that the Ministry of Agriculture has become a channel to divert public funds, with projects that are not in harmony with their mandate or overcoming the needs of urgent citizens.

“Over the years, the big allocation has gone to agriculture, but farmers do not have original support and rural communities remain less served. Now, billions are pushed to a police station under an agricultural institution.”

“We ask the occupants of the state of Akwa Ibom to oversee these projects, track their implementation, and ensure the value of money. Citizens’ vigilance is very important to stop waste and prevent other cycles of the project left or below standard.”

“We also ask ICPC and EFCC to immediately investigate the Ministry of Agriculture and Federal Co-Operative College, Ibadan, for these projects. Public funds must serve the people, not political interests before 2027.”
