Four suspects cult were arrested after a clash of violence in the Anambra community

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four alleged cult members after the confrontation of violence in the Nsugbe community, which is located in the East Anambra Regional Government.

The incident was reported to have occurred in the early days of Tuesday behind the Orizu College of Education nafor, where the suspects were seen attacking each other with mattresses, broken bottles, daggers, and other weapons.

In a statement released Wednesday, a police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest, which occurred after the operation was coordinated involving police officers and the local judges’ group.

According to Ikenga, “On September 16, 2025, around 7 am, armed criminals suspected of being worshiping were seen attacking each other with stationery, broken bottles, dagger and other dangerous weapons behind Nwazu Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.”

He added that the joint team of the police/vigilante itself quickly responded and arrested four suspects: Oyachonam Friday, 26; Akachukwu Ekwenze, 23; David Chukwuma, 25; and Ezisene Aloysius, 23, while others fled to the nearest bush.

During the clash, a suspect, David Chukwuma, suffered a machete injury. “He has been given medical treatment and is currently responding to treatment for the actions needed by the operators,” Ikenga said.

The suspects have claimed to be members of the “Ayes” Confrenity, and investigations are ongoing to track other people who escape.

“This case is being investigated, while efforts are ongoing to capture the worshiped worshipers,” Ikenga said.

Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, convinced the residents, saying, “The order remains endlessly in his struggle against the cult and forms of other violent crimes in the state.”
