Britain will encourage a peace plan for the Middle East in the UN General Assembly after recognizing the state of Palestine.

Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper is expected to use the Summit to overcome civil suffering in Gaza which is struck by war and aims to strengthen “International Consensus on our path for peace in the Middle East”.

He will hold a bilateral meeting to advance the elements of the peace plan, including security steps to ensure Hamas does not have a role in Gaza governance in the future, according to foreign offices.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who will not attend the Summit, announced on Sunday that the British recognized Palestine as an independent country, to “revive the expectations of peace for Palestine and Israel, and a solution of two countries”.
