The former Super Eagles player, Victor Ezeji, was arrested by the agents of the Criminal Investigation Department of the State of Rivers (Scid) for alleged fraud that involved the issue of DDD controls for a value of N39.8 million and alleged threats to life.
Ezeji and his wife, Mrs. Celestina Onyemaeca Ezeji, were on the run since July 2025 after presumably purchased 60,000 liters of car gas oil (FA), commonly called Diesel, by a businessman, Dagogo Emmanuel, and of having issued him a subsequent rebound.
Police sources reported that Ezeji was arrested on Monday 22 September 2025, after weeks of surveillance and investigative efforts.
The former International is in police custody in Scid, Port Harcourt.
He admitted knowledge of the transaction and confirmed the signing of the controls, but he said the ignorance of where his wife was.
Investigators said that efforts were underway to arrest Mrs. Ezeji, who remained generally at the time of the press.
When he was contacted, Ezeji’s brother, Chuks Ezeji, confirmed the arrest, but insisted on the fact that Victor was not directly involved in the commercial agreement.

According to him, Mrs. Ezeji would have led the transaction using the name of her husband. (The Guardian)
