Meta Platforms has introduced a translation feature for its WhatsApp messaging service, with the aim of relieving crossed chats between its over 3 billion users.
Translations will be initially available in six languages on Android devices and 19 languages on iPhone, with multiple languages to follow.
“The translations of the messages have been designed to protect the privacy of your chats. That’s why translations occur on your device in which WhatsApp cannot see them,” Meta said in a statement from Tuesday 23 September 2025.
Users can foresee for a long time on a message and touch “translate” to see any message in another language.
The functionality works for personal and group chats, as well as updates on the channel.

Android users can also enable automatic translation for an entire chat thread, so future messages are translated by default.
