The new controversy hit the administration of President Bola Tinubu after an investigation has shown that the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, UCC NNAJI, forged his university diploma.

This exhibition is the result of a two -year investigation by Premium Times, which discovered that both the Nnaji university certificate and its resignation certificate of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were forged.

The report cited an answer to a freedom of information sent by the newspaper, which stated that while Nnaji was admitted in 1981, there is no documentation that completed his studies or graduated in July 1985, as his certificate says.

In a letter of October 2, 2025 and signed by the vice-changing, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, UNn denied the certificate currently paraded by the minister.

“From any record and information available from the University of Nigeria, NSUKKA, we are unable to confirm that Mr. Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, current Minister of Science and Technology, graduated from the University of Nigeria in July 1985, since there are no documents of his completion of the study at the University of Nigeria, NSUKKA.

“Flument from above, the University of Nigeria, NSUKKA, could not have issued the alleged certificate, or at all, in July 1985 to Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, current Minister of Science and Technology. The same topic”, the letter was mentioned.

Further checks by the document showed that although Nnaji was admitted to studying biological sciences, he failed several courses, before he was advised to retire.

In 1986, according to what was reported, he wrote to the university looking for another opportunity to resume an exam, a year after saying that he has already graduated.

Premium Times reported that the forensic analysis of the minister’s NYSC certificate also revealed evident inconsistencies.

The certificate carried the signing of a body official who took the office only 18 months after the date on which it was presumably issued.

The report also observed that the certificate transported an unreasigned numbering system and suggested that Nnaji served for 13 months, contrary to the 12 -month statutory program.

The newspaper, he said that despite the repeated requests for clarification, the minister did not respond to the results of his investigations.
