The president of the Senate Godswill Akpabio was absent on Tuesday 7 October 2025, when the Senate resumed the plenary session after a 10 -week break.
The plenary was chaired by the vice -president of the Senate Barau Jibrin.
One of the salient moments of the session was the return of the senator representative of Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan, who returned to the room after a six-month suspension.
Despite the absence of Akpabio, there was a strong turnout of parliamentarians, marking a full return to legislative activity.
Some senators also took the opportunity to express international solidarity by appearing with Palestinian colors and clothes, asking for a free Palestine.
Both rooms of the National Assembly had updated on July 24th for their annual break.

It should be remembered that Akpoti-Unduaghan, on September 23, resumed his functions at the Complex of the National Assembly after taking his suspension.
This followed the reopening of his office in the complex of the National Assembly.
Speaking with journalists shortly after having access to her office, the senator excluded any excuse to the Senate, saying that it would be unfair to ask her despite survived what she described as “an injustice”.
Akpoti-Auduaghan said: “I am still waiting for the official letter because it is very important to understand what conditions they could put, even illegally, in this regard. I read in the newspapers that yesterday the meeting of the top was held and the leader of the minority, the senator Abba Moro, at the resumption of work, on October 7, would have read a motion in which he asked me to apologize.
“But what excuses do they expect from me? You can’t apologize for an injustice. This is an illegality after another, and I think the Nigerians should reject these acts”.
Akpoti-Auduaghan added that any attempt to tie its recovery to the apologies would be unacceptable.
