IPOB Rejects NMA Medical Report on Kanu, accusing body of colluding with AGF, DSS to manipulate evidence

The outlawed Igbo separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has rejected a medical report prepared by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), on the health condition of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, which will be tendered as evidence before the Federal High Court, Abuja, during Kanu’s appearance on Wednesday.

In rejecting the report, the group alleged that the document, dated as not only invalid, unacceptable, and ethically compromised.

In a statement on Wednesday signed by lawyer Chukwuma Benson Ihejiofor on behalf of IPOB’s Legal Advisory Directorate, the Pro-Biafra group noted that the report was produced before the court order authorizing an independent medical examination and at the instance of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

The statement stressed that the report violated judicial authority and medical ethics, accusing the NMA of colluding with the AGF and the Department of State Services (DSS) to manipulate evidence and obstruct justice.

“The report pre-empted a court order for an independent medical evaluation and was never released to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as promised by the NMA, and was allegedly prepared at the behest of the Attorney General of the Federation. This conduct violates judicial authority and medical ethics,” the statement read.

“On September 23, 2025, the NMA vice president personally assured Kanu and his family that the report would be submitted to him that evening. However, to date, no such report has been submitted.

“The concealment of this report is a breach of Section 23(1) of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act, which requires medical practitioners to maintain transparency with patients.

“To prepare a medical report at the request of a litigant (AGF), then withhold it from the patient while planning to present it in court, is a violation of law and conscience.

“By that single act, the NMA has surrendered its independence and degraded the honor of Nigerian medical professionals.

“If this report is tendered as evidence in court, it will amount to judicial complicity in executive fraud.

“No defendant can lawfully be required to defend himself against documents that have never been seen or served. Such proceedings violate the basic principle of Audi Alteram Partem, that no person should be condemned to be unheard of.”

“No legitimate, court-supervised medical re-examination of Kanu has been conducted. Any report prepared beforehand or suppressed thereafter is inadmissible and unconstitutional. The defense will object to its admission and demand an investigation into the role of the NMA.”

“Reports that precede court orders and are hidden from the defendant are zero.

“Let the world be a witness that Ipob stands unwaveringly, peacefully, lawfully and firmly, for truth and justice in the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu case.”
