‘Nigeria is the deadliest place in the world to become a Christian’ – Congress member, Riley Moore

A member of the United States Congress, Riley McGowan Moore, has described Nigeria as the deadliest place in the world to become a Christian, quoting what he calls systematic persecution and the massacre of Christians in the country.

In a letter he was addressed to the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio on Tuesday, Moore urged the US to take diplomatic action immediately and determine the Nigerian government

In the letter, Moore, a member of the Republican party representing the 2nd West Virginia district at the US Congress, asked the US to use all the available diplomatic devices, including stopping the sale of weapons to Nigeria and redesigning as a State that became a special concern (CPC) under the Act of the US International Religion.

“I write to urge you to take immediate action to overcome systematic persecution and the massacre of Christians in Nigeria,” Moore who described himself as a Christian who was devoted to Roman Catholic faith on his X Profile, wrote.

Continuing, Congress members said:

“As a Christian nation established based on Bible principles, the United States has a unique obligation to defend the freedom and protection of Christians throughout the world.

“Nigeria has become the deadliest place in the world to become a Christian, and the United States cannot secretly. I urge you to use all the available diplomatic devices, including appointing Nigeria as a special concern (BPK) and stopping the sale of weapons and all the technical support related until the Nigerian government shows that they are quite committed to reviving and resistance.

Providing terrible statistics to support his claim, Moore said more than 7,000 Christians had been killed in Nigeria in 2025 alone, on average 35 murder per day.

He referred to reports that at least 19,100 churches have been attacked or destroyed since 2009, while more than 15 million Nigerians have been moved due to extremist violence.

“The number of Christians suffering from persecution every day because of their faith, including the surprising amount that has been killed for declaring Jesus Christ as their Savior, terrible. More than 7,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria in 2025, on average 35 murder per day.

“That includes at least 50 Christians who are brutally martyred in Palm Sunday and 200 other killed in June. This is consistent with an open door that shows that more Christians are killed every year in Nigeria than throughout the world that are combined. The failure of the endless persecution has continued for years and does not show signs of signs.”

Moore, who is a vocal voice about international human rights issues, accused that the Nigerian government had consistently closed his eyes against the massacre of Christians and had done much to protect its Christian population and may even be involved in the attack.

He accused the regional government in Northern Nigeria of supporting extremist ideology and enforcing anti-Christian policies, including the closure of Christian orphanage and re-education of Christian children in Islamic schools.

“Since 2015, at least 250 Catholic clerks have been attacked, in addition to 350 other clerks from other denominations. On Ash Wednesday this year, a priest in North-northern Nigeria was kidnapped and killed brutally.

“Between the Boko Haram rebellion in July 2009 and September 2025, 19,100 Christian churches in Nigeria were attacked or destroyed, representing an average of 1,200 churches per year, 100 per month, or more than three per day.

“In addition, at least 850 Christians are currently being held for ransom in jihad camps in extreme conditions. These people are tortured or killed if the ransom is not paid.

“Reports estimate that at least 15 million people have been moved by acts of violence and acts of rampant terror in Nigeria. Simply put, this must end.

“Muslim extremist groups such as ISIS-West Africa, Ansaru, and Boko Haram are the main actor. Only last week, Boko Haram destroyed Kirawa, Nigeria, displaced thousands. But just as reports that corrupt cells from the Nigerian government may be involved, and even directly involved, in some of these attacks.

“In northern countries such as Kano, local governments have supported and facilitated the closure of Christian orphanages and forced children to be re-educated as Muslims. The Nigerian Federal Government also maintains and enforces the Anti-Basphemy Law, and several states in Nigeria even have a Harsher version of this federal government. This includes.

“But the same as the report that corrupt cells from the Nigerian government may be involved, and even directly involved, in some of these attacks.

‘While the Nigerians from all religions face terrorism, Christians far and far are the most targeted for persecution and violence. In addition, this violence is almost exclusively from Muslim groups and is explicitly anti-Christian. “
