FIFA dashes the Super Eagles’ World Cup hopes after confirming the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the qualifiers

FIFA, which governs world football, has effectively dashed the Super Eagles’ hopes of playing in the 2026 World Cup after they confirmed that the Democratic Republic of the Congo will take part in the final playoffs in Mexico later this month.

FIFA is yet to announce a verdict on Nigeria’s petition against the Democratic Republic of the Congo for fielding several ineligible players in the CAF World Cup final qualifiers in November in Morocco.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo will now wait for the winners of the match between Jamaica and New Caledonia to fight for a place in the world.

Observers said FIFA’s silence in the face of Nigeria’s protest could well be because its demand is baseless.

The Super Águilas are scheduled to participate in an invitational tournament in Jordan during the Playoff season in Mexico.
