IBEDC blames the gas shortage and apologizes for the unstable power supply

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has apologized for the inconvenience caused by the ongoing electricity supply difficulties across its franchise.

IBEDC Public Relations Officer, Daniel Adugbo, in a statement issued on Saturday, March 7, 2026, attributed the situation to challenges affecting power generation and supply from the national grid.

Adugbo said the shortage of gas supply to power generation plants has reduced generation capacity nationwide, resulting in increased load shedding on the grid.

It said demand for electricity within the IBEDC franchise has increased significantly in recent months, particularly following the addition of more Grade A power supplies in line with regulatory directives.

Adugbo said: “Energy allocation from the national grid has remained unstable and subject to periodic dips, creating a wider gap between available supply and customer demand.

“As a result, some communities within our franchise are experiencing supply shortages.

“We fully understand the frustration this has created among our customers and sincerely apologize for the disruption to homes, businesses and economic activity.”

Adugbo, who said the continued supply of epileptic power has triggered protests in some communities within the franchise, appealed for calm and urged customers to embrace dialogue as efforts intensify to address the situation.

He added: “We appeal to our valued customers and communities to embrace dialogue rather than protest.

“IBEDC has engaged community leaders and stakeholders in our coverage areas to foster mutual understanding and work towards sustainable solutions.”

The IBEDC spokesperson assured customers that the company has started engaging stakeholders in the energy value chain to address the imbalance in energy allocation, restore grid stability and improve electricity supply.
