IWD: NPA chief reaffirms commitment to gender inclusion and celebrates women

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, has reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to gender inclusion, stressing that promoting women’s participation in leadership and decision-making positions remains a deliberate priority.

In a personally signed statement celebrating women in various professions as part of this year’s International Women’s Day, Dr Dantsoho said her commitment is reflected in the composition of her immediate team, particularly among her assistants and TAs, where women currently occupy 60% of positions, with men accounting for the remaining 40%.

According to him, this deliberate step underlines the NPA’s determination to promote a more inclusive workplace and create pathways for women to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the continued development of the maritime industry.

“The Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) proudly celebrates the resilience, professionalism and invaluable contribution of women in the maritime sector.

“From fire and port security services to maritime pilotage, engineering, hydrography and vital administrative and maritime support services such as aids to navigation, women play a vital role in supporting the efficiency, safety and growth of Nigeria’s port operations.

“These exceptional professionals continue to excel in fields traditionally considered physically demanding and male-dominated, demonstrating competence, strength and leadership while redefining the boundaries of opportunity within the industry.

“Today, the NPA celebrates the extraordinary women within its workforce and across the maritime sector, whose dedication, courage and excellence continue to drive progress, break down barriers and shape a more inclusive and equitable future for the sector.”
