Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P of the defunct group Psquare, has stepped back from activism to focus on his personal and family life amidst ongoing economic and security challenges in Nigeria.
The music star made this known on Monday, while responding to a fan who questioned his silence regarding the country’s deteriorating situation, including rising inflation, soaring fuel prices and growing insecurity on social media.
In his response, Okoye explained that he had played his part by speaking out on national issues over the years.
The singer recalled his participation in the #EndSARS protests in 2020 and openly campaigning for Labor Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2023 general elections.

According to him, this effort is part of his advocacy for change in the country.
However, the singer said that he has now chosen to shift his focus to the well-being of himself and his family.
“I have played my role since the last election until the #EndSARS movement. At this point, I choose to focus on my life and my family. Everyone has their own role,” he wrote.
