The Nasarawa State Government has reaffirmed commitment to women’s empowerment, economic inclusion and gender equality.
State Commissioner of Women’s Affairs and Humanitarian Services Barr. Hauwa Samuel made the pledge on Monday, while briefing journalists on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, at her office in Lafia.
He said the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule remained steadfast in promoting the welfare, protection and economic empowerment of women across the State.
She noted that women’s empowerment is not only a matter of justice but also a strategic path towards sustainable development.
“Indeed, when we invest in women, we strengthen families, grow our economy and ensure a more prosperous future for our state,” she said.
She emphasized that women remain the main drivers of social and economic development in our communities.
“Their contributions are invaluable to the stability of families and the progress of our states,” he said.
She further noted that despite these notable contributions, many women still face challenges such as limited economic opportunities, limited access to finance, and socio-cultural barriers that hinder their full participation in development.
Therefore, he said addressing these challenges requires deliberate and sustained action by government, institutions and society at large.
“Families and communities are therefore encouraged to show appreciation and support for the women in their lives. In particular, husbands and family members are encouraged to value, respect and support women who play an indispensable role in sustaining our homes and nurturing future generations,” he said.
