Bala Mohammed’s Bauchi government may ditch the PDP for the APC

Barring a last-minute change of plans, it appears that Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed may succumb to pressure, as he is reportedly set to ditch the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor is expected to announce his intentions tomorrow (Tuesday).

Mohammed, along with Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, remain the only two PDP governors who have stood tall and vocal amidst the wave of defections that has hit the PDP, in the wake of the crisis that has divided the party.

There are also rumors that Makinde will also soon leave the PDP post to continue his political career.

The pair’s chances of taking control of the party and saving the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections have been priced in with an appeals court ruling giving control of the party to a faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister Nyesome Wike.

With this victory, Wike set tough conditions for his opponents who want to make peace and stay in the party.

Mohammed is said to have taken the decision to quit the party, following his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Mohammed is not eligible for re-election as he is serving a second term, but he wants to determine who will replace him, an issue that is likely to be contentious if he is admitted to the APC in Bauchi.
