Grace Ike, President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has been formally inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career in media and communications.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Ike described the moment as both a personal achievement and a professional expansion of his long-standing commitment to strategic communications.

“This moment marks not only a personal milestone, but a bridge between my roots in journalism and my progression into the dynamic world of public relations,” he said.

With more than two decades of experience in journalism and media advocacy, Ike has played a leading role in promoting press freedom and advocating for the well-being of journalists. As Chair of the NUJ’s FCT Council, she has been at the forefront of initiatives to strengthen ethical standards and protect the rights of media professionals.

Reflecting on his journey, he highlighted the vital role of communication in nation building.

“These experiences have taught me that communication is the lifeblood of society, building trust, shaping narratives and driving change,” he said.

Ike noted that joining NIPR strengthens his commitment to ethical and impactful communication in both journalism and public relations. She is committed to bringing journalistic discipline and integrity to the practice of public relations, particularly at a time when misinformation and the digital revolution pose significant challenges.

“When I join NIPR, I bring this journalistic rigor to public relations: a commitment to ethical storytelling, strategic engagement and the amplification of voices, particularly those of women in leadership and media,” she added.

He further emphasized that public relations extends beyond image management to include reputation building, perception shaping, crisis management and fostering meaningful relationships.

“In an age of misinformation, public relations professionals must act with integrity, promoting dialogue that unites rather than divides,” Ike said.
