The Ogun State Government has rejected claims circulating online about the strength of evidence in the case against Abass Olalekan, a Local Government Inspector (LGI) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abeokuta South.

Mr Olalekan was arraigned on March 23, 2026 before the Magistrate Court 1, Isabo, Abeokuta, charged with two counts. He was later granted bail, a decision the government says was widely misinterpreted in public comments.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), clarified that the grant of bail is based solely on the nature of the charges and does not reflect the strength or quality of the evidence.

The Attorney General also confirmed that it had taken over management of the case after receiving the file from the State Police Command.

According to the statement, the charges are based on the findings of a police investigation that Mr Olalekan was having an affair with the late Victoria Olapeju Ariyo, who was reportedly pregnant at the time of her death.

The investigation also alleges that he encouraged termination of the pregnancy, recommended a person have the procedure and provided financial support for it. The deceased is said to have died following the procedure.

The government has described allegations that cast doubt on the credibility of evidence and suggest missing witnesses as “false and misleading,” stressing that the case remains at a preliminary stage.

He stressed that evidence issues will be determined during the trial and warned against speculation that could undermine confidence in the judicial process.

The Attorney General urged the public and media to allow the judicial process to take its course and to ignore unverified information circulating about the case.
