Former Edo Representative resigns from APC

Former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.

Agbonayinma, who represented Ikpoba-Okha/Egor Federal Constituency between 2015 and 2019, announced his resignation at his residence in Benn City on Wednesday.

He regretted that the party had been hijacked by individuals who took over the party for their own interests.

Agbonayinma told journalists that he would soon reveal the political party whose platform he hopes to contest in next year’s general elections.

The former federal lawmaker said he resigned from the APC due to lack of respect for its leadership and marginalization of Edo South in political appointments.

He said some of the appointments made by President Bola Tinubu were given to individuals from Edo North without regard to Edo South, which has the highest voting population in the state.

The former lawmaker said he could not continue to be in an undemocratic party.

He stated that politicians who are against the interests of the APC are now dictating political patronage within the party.

“As foundation members since AC, ACN, ACD, now APC, we have worked hard to build inclusive democratic institutions.

“It is, therefore, very sad to witness that the party in our constituency is gradually becoming the property of one or a few individuals who are unnecessarily and undemocratically interfering in the political domain of the party in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government.

“After careful evaluation of recent developments within the party (APC), and having observed a series of anti-democratic tendencies and activities, I regret to inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.

“At a critical point in my political journey, and in line with my personal beliefs, principles, and evolving vision for purposeful ministry, I have come to the solemn conclusion that this difficult but unavoidable step needs to be taken.

“You can prove it, I did a lot as a member of the DPR, investigating corruption.

“Just look at the three Ambassadors who were appointed, they are domiciled in Edo North.

“The zone with the highest population is neglected and marginalized. The South South Development Commission is domiciled in Edo North.” he added.
