The APC chief promised credible elections and stronger democracy

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has assured that his party will push for credible elections and stronger democratic institutions in the country.

He spoke on Thursday in Abuja while handing over certificates of return to National Working Committee (APC) members elected at the party’s national convention held last month in Abuja.

NWC members are re-elected by affirmative vote and will direct the party’s affairs for four years.

Yilwatda said the convention would be one of the best ever for his party.

“This convention will go down in history without a single litigation. It felt more like a carnival than a convention.

“The internal disputes that usually occur after a convention are completely absent,” he said.

He praised the Central Planning Coordination Committee for carrying out an “excellent, elegant, well-organized and transparent” process.

The chairman added that the convention set a new benchmark, and described it as one of the most extraordinary conventions held in the country.

Yilwatda promises a strong performance ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the new NWC will deepen democracy, uphold the party’s values, and expand membership through engagement and mobilization.

“We must keep our party strong and focused, with clear policies, candidates and direction for Nigeria.

“Our responsibility is to strengthen democracy and build trust in the political process.

“APC will work towards credible elections and stronger democratic institutions.

“We will ensure results at all levels, from governors to legislators, and make every effort for the success of our candidates,” the APC chairman added.

Yilwatda also pledged close cooperation with stakeholders, state governors and the Federal Government to ensure unity and coordination.

He reaffirmed his commitment to responsible leadership and national development.

Chairman of the Convention Coordinating Committee, Aminu Masari, urged the new NWC to act with integrity.

He prayed for guidance, protection and wisdom in carrying out his duties.

“The parties faced intense pressure during the primaries. I hope we resist the temptation and do what is right for our party and our country.

“We have presented and issued certificates to the new members of the NWC. With their commitment, we expect a renewed and motivated committee.

“If we want to move forward, we have to believe that tomorrow can be better than today,” said Masari.
