INEC postponed voter revalidation until after the 2027 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the proposed implementation of nationwide voter revalidation until after the 2027 general elections.

This was disclosed by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Voter Information and Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Haruna, who did not state the reason for the delay, said the decision was taken at a commission meeting in Abuja.

“After deliberation, the KPU decided to postpone its implementation until after the 2027 election,” he said.

He described voter revalidation as an important component of INEC’s mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Voter’s Register.

He added that this exercise will give registered voters an opportunity to confirm their details and make necessary corrections if necessary.

Haruna reiterated INEC’s commitment to credible elections in the country.
