The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo has abandoned her dream of becoming governor and is supporting Senator Solomon Adeola.
Iyabo Obasanjo, a former senator representing Ogun Central announced the development in a statement on Monday saying he will no longer pursue his dream of contesting the Ogun state governorship election in 2027.
He attributed his decision to the endorsement of Senator Adeola as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the election.
In his statement, Obasanjo congratulated Adeola on her emergence and wished her success in her future journey. He also expressed appreciation to the state and national APC leaders for giving him the opportunity to participate in the internal processes of the party.

“I congratulate him and wish him success,” he said. “I also thank the state and national leaders of our major parties for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.”
He added that his decision to resign was based on the results of the caucus meeting, where the party leadership reached a consensus regarding Adeola’s candidacy.
“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for their calm, unwavering support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope,” he added.
