The last PDP member of the Sokoto Assembly joins the ADC

The last member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Sokoto Assembly, Abdullahi Randa, has switched to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Randa, representing the Tureta Constituency, confirmed his defection in a letter read out at Tuesday’s plenary session by Speaker Tukur Bala.

After that, the lawmaker said that his decision was taken following a prolonged leadership crisis in the Democratic Party

He said: “The protracted dispute has weakened the party’s capacity to function as a credible opposition.

“I took this decision after careful consideration, as the situation has made the platform unusable,” he told reporters.

His resignation came days after several PDP lawmakers resigned from the party.

On April 7, seven PDP members defected to the ADC, while one joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Joining are Abubakar Magaji, Habibu Modachi, Buhari Haliru, Bashar Jabo, Nasiru Adamu, Awaisu Aliyu and Atiku Liman.

Muhammad Mas’ud, representing Shagari Constituency, switched to APC.

This development left the Assembly with 22 APC members and eight ADC members, while the PDP had no representation.
