Former governor of Osun State, and once a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, Rauf Aregbesola has called on the president to resign over the hardships and insecurity Nigerians are facing under his watch.
Aregbesola made the call while speaking at the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said President Tinubu should resign following worsening insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria.
“The people who deliberately split the People’s Democratic Party today are wrongly considered to be political strategists. Since when has criminality become a strategy? The ADC does not, and will never owe its existence to any individual or group, including an electoral body that masquerades as a neutral umpire with its leadership that tinges with political partisanship.”

Aregbesola expressed concern that transport costs had risen so sharply that it was now impractical for some workers to get to work.
“Normally, after making such promises and getting dismal results, an honest president should resign and not seek re-election. Instead, what we are witnessing is the most desperate attempt by a candidate in Nigeria’s electoral history to cling to power at all costs, even if it means toppling the entire democratic system. We have a duty to stop fraudsters from clinging to power,” condemned the former Tinubu ally.
He also reminded that there will be no automatic or ceremonial increase in power at the Presidential Villa in 2027.
“There will be no coronation in 2027. There will be no Kabiyesi in the Presidential Villa in 2027,” described the president’s autocratic style of governance, and stated that under Tinubu’s rule, being in opposition was effectively considered an offense.
