The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nyesom Wike-backed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, adopted a primary election schedule ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP has been hit by a prolonged internal crisis with the emergence of two different factions who have filed numerous cases in court in their bid to control the party.
But party spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed Junudo, said full details of the schedule would be announced by the National Working Committee after completing the administrative process.
At the 108th NEC meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the PDP declared that it had emerged from the recent internal crisis, and declared that “the era of uncertainty is over.” The party said it remained “strong, united and resilient,” dismissing speculation of internal turmoil.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by Junudo, the NEC expressed its confidence in the newly elected NWC led by National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.
Reaffirming the party’s cohesion, the committee stressed the need for reconciliation among aggrieved members and stakeholders, and stressed that disputes must be resolved through dialogue and in line with the existing party structure and democratic principles.
As part of preparations for the 2027 election, the NEC approved a comprehensive schedule of party primaries, including the sale of Expressions of Interest and Nomination Forms. This decree directs all party organs to strictly adhere to the schedule to ensure a transparent and credible nomination process.
The NEC also emphasized full compliance with the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission, in particular regarding the submission of membership lists, the conduct of primaries, and the resolution of disputes.

Party leaders and stakeholders at all levels are urged to immediately begin preparations for state-level primaries, with emphasis on strict compliance with statutory provisions and internal regulations to ensure a smooth and inclusive process.
Regarding internal reforms, the NEC supported the ongoing electronic membership registration (e-registration), and described it as an important step towards modernizing the party’s database, increasing transparency and strengthening grassroots participation.
In his remarks, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, reiterated his loyalty to the PDP, stating that he had no intention of leaving the party after more than two decades as a member.
He praised the NWC for reclaiming the party’s National Secretariat, describing the move as a demonstration of legitimacy, and urged leaders to intensify reconciliation efforts by reaching out to members who defected during the crisis.
Wike also called for greater transparency and openness in party affairs, and stated that such steps would encourage the return of members and rebuild internal trust.
Also speaking, National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed said the PDP had successfully overcome its leadership challenges and was now focused on election preparations and strategic consolidation.
