Maduka Okoye has been cleared of any wrongdoing after an Italian court permanently dropped a betting fraud investigation involving the Udinese Calcio goalkeeper.
According to Italian newspaper Messaggero Veneto, the case was dismissed after betting operator Snaitech formally withdrew its complaint during a pre-trial hearing at the Udine court. Judge Paolo Lauteri later ruled that there was no case to answer, ending months of uncertainty surrounding the Nigerian international.
The investigation had previously contributed to Okoye missing six league games at the start of the season before returning to action in October.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper has since re-established himself as one of Udinese’s key players this season, recording 10 clean sheets in 28 Serie A appearances and playing an important role in the club’s campaign.
