An All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives aspirant for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Mrs Mary Ikoku, has dismissed reports suggesting the adoption of a consensus or single aspirant ahead of the party’s primary elections.
In a statement issued to journalists on Friday, Ikoku said he was aware of claims circulating in the media and political circles that some aspirants had been approved as “consensus candidates”, warning that such reports were misleading and capable of creating unnecessary tension within the party.
No consent according to APC guidelines
Ikoku stressed that no valid consent agreement had been reached among aspirants for the ticket, stressing that the constitution and guidelines of the APC clearly require a written and voluntary agreement from all authorized aspirants before any consent could be recognised.
“No collective agreement or unanimous consensus has been reached among all aspirants at the moment,” he said.
He added that the emergence of multiple and conflicting endorsements from different groups further confirms that no legitimate consensus process has been concluded.
Requests for calm and order within the party
The aspirant urged party members, delegates and supporters to remain calm and ignore what he described as attempts to create confusion ahead of the primaries.
He expressed confidence in the leadership of the APC at both the state and national levels to ensure fairness, transparency and adherence to internal democratic processes.
In her view, the party’s credibility depends on allowing all candidates to test their popularity through established procedures rather than through informal endorsements.
Grassroots Engagement and Development Agenda
Ikoku, who has been actively engaging stakeholders in Arochukwu and Ohafia Federal Constituency, said his campaign remains focused on peaceful consultations and issue-based politics.
He reiterated that his ambition is anchored on improving human capital development, access to healthcare and responding to growing social challenges such as youth unemployment and substance abuse in the constituency.
Track record in women and community development
The aspirant also highlighted her work across civil society and development initiatives, including women’s empowerment programs and community-based interventions aimed at improving livelihoods.
She noted that through her platform she has supported women’s capacity building and provided assistance to vulnerable families, adding that such experiences have shaped her focus on people-centered representation.
Appeal to unity and discipline
Ikoku called on his supporters across the constituency to remain peaceful, orderly and law abiding throughout the internal process of the party.
He stressed that the unity and integrity of the APC must remain a priority, regardless of individual aspirations.
“At this critical moment, the unity, integrity and credibility of our party must remain paramount,” he said.
