The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended Kannywood actors Amina Uba Hassan and Adam Garba for a year, banning them from all film-related activities in the state over a video deemed to have immoral content.
The council said the suspension came into effect on Sunday and was aimed at promoting discipline, upholding social values and ensuring compliance with norms guiding film production in Kano.
Council spokesperson Abdullahi Sulaiman said the actors were sanctioned after appearing in a video that sparked controversy among residents for alleged indecent content.
Executive Secretary Abba El-Mustapha urged actors to avoid actions that could damage their reputation or bring the Kannywood industry into disrepute. He also ordered producers and directors to fully comply with the suspension, warning that failure to comply would breach the council’s regulations.
The Kano State Censorship Board was established in 2022 to regulate, monitor and censor films, music, publications and entertainment content in the state.
