Pep Guardiola leaves Manchester City

Pep Guardiola will reportedly leave Manchester City at the end of this week, bringing an end to a highly successful spell at the club.

The Spanish manager is expected to oversee City’s final two games of the Premier League season against Bournemouth and Aston Villa before formally resigning from his role at the Etihad Stadium, English media report.

His potential departure comes shortly after leading City to FA Cup success on Saturday, where they secured a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley.

That triumph could prove to be the last trophy of his time at Manchester, regarded by many as one of the most dominant eras of English football.

Although City are still in contention for the Premier League title, their hopes hinge on winning both of their remaining matches and hoping that Arsenal drop points against Burnley or Crystal Palace.

During his time at the club, Guardiola achieved notable success, including six Premier League titles, with an unprecedented four consecutive league wins.

He also led City to their first UEFA Champions League crown, along with numerous domestic honors such as three FA Cups, five League Cups and three Community Shields.

Reports suggest the city has already begun preparing for an official announcement, with plans to inform key stakeholders ahead of a possible confirmation on Sunday.

In recognition of his achievements, Guardiola will be honored with an open-top bus parade in Manchester on Monday, alongside players from the men’s, women’s and youth teams.

Former Chelsea and Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has emerged as one of the leading candidates to succeed him. Maresca previously worked with Guardiola as an assistant during the 2022-23 season before taking charge of Leicester.

Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016 after previous managerial spells with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and has since transformed the club into one of the most dominant teams in Europe.
