The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, on Monday reiterated the command’s resolve to rid the state of unrepentant criminal elements.
He made this statement following the arrest of two suspects in interstate kidnapping and armed robbery by operatives of the Udenu Police Division, Udenu Local Government Area of Udenu State.
The arrest was made possible thanks to police collaboration with members of the Neighborhood Watch Group, who recovered a firearm, ammunition, motorcycles and other incriminating evidence during the operation.
Police image maker, Daniel Ndukwe, said the suspects, identified as Mohammed Hassan (male, 28 years) and Aminu Usman (male, 26 years), both from Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, were arrested on May 14, 2026, at about 1.20pm, at Amutenyi, Obollo-Afor, Udenu LGA of the state of Enugu.
Ndukwe added that “recovered among the suspects were a Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of .9mm ammunition, three suspected stolen motorcycles, a mobile phone, suspicious charms, an ATM card, a telephone, a set of keys and a cash sum of four thousand seven hundred naira (₦4,700.00).”
It further said that “preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are members of an interstate kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate allegedly involved in kidnapping and motorcycle theft operations along the border communities between Enugu and Benue states.
“Attempts are underway to arrest their accomplices, while the suspects will be arraigned once the investigation is completed.”
