The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Saturday changed the convention venue and ratified former President Goodluck Jonathan as its 2027 presidential candidate, barely 20 minutes after police blocked access to the original venue in Abuja.

Security officers barricaded the two roads leading to the A Class Hotel in Wuse with vans, preventing PDP members loyal to Tanimu Turaki from entering. The hotel had been fully paid for and security agencies had been informed of the May 30 convention.
—Jonathan ratified in 20 minutes—
The faction moved the proceedings to a new, secret location and wrapped up business in less than 20 minutes. Jonathan’s ally, Senator Fred Agbedi, received the certificate of return in his name.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Professor Jerry Gana, Tanimu Turaki and Senator Adolphus Wabara.
—Wike’s warning, PDP’s reaction—
The move follows FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s warning on Friday to hotels and event centers not to host “illegal political gatherings” for security reasons.
The PDP accused Wike of trying to stop the convention. “The management of a Class Event Center informed us that pressure was mounting to stop the rally despite full payment and compliance with regulations,” the party said in a statement.
The PDP insisted that the convention go ahead despite “intimidation”.
