Rabiu Kwankwaso, vice presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Coalition, NDC, has dismissed reports that party leaders are planning a protest against growing insecurity.
In a statement on Monday, June 1, 2026, the former defense minister and two-term governor of Kano called the claims “false and misleading,” urging Nigerians to ignore what he called “deliberate disinformation.”

“We do not support any action that would lead to the breakdown of law and order or the destruction of life and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to adopting peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” Kwankwaso said.
The NDC vice-presidential candidate stressed that the party believes the ballot box remains “the most legitimate and effective way” for citizens to express grievances and drive change.

Kwankwaso reaffirmed the NDC’s democratic position ahead of 2027: “As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the coming elections through peaceful democratic means.”
He advised the public to ignore those “spreading such misinformation.”
The clarification comes as insecurity dominates the national discourse, with recent kidnappings reported in Oyo, Ekiti and Kwara states, and Babachir Lawal quitting the ADC over alleged rigged primaries.
