Troops rescue 23 kidnapped bus passengers in Kogi

Troops of the 12th Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued 23 kidnapped persons in Kogi State.

The victims were abducted following an attack carried out by suspected bandits along Ayegunle – Bunu road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of ​​the state on Monday.

The Nigerian Army confirmed the news in an operational report in Lokoja.

According to the report, the attackers barricaded the road and kidnapped an unspecified number of passengers in the early hours of the morning.

“12 Brigade troops, deployed in Kabba, responded quickly to the distress call but the attackers had fled before they arrived.

“When they arrived at the scene, the troops found two bodies, five injured victims, as well as two Toyota commercial buses and a HOWO truck abandoned on the side of the road.

”Troops immediately launched a pursuit operation along the kidnappers’ withdrawal route, which succeeded in rescuing 23 passengers who were abandoned due to the continuous pressure.

“The injured victims were evacuated to St. Joseph Hospital, Kabba, for medical treatment.

“Efforts are underway to trace the fleeing criminals and rescue the remaining victims,” the report said.
